We are pleased to announce the release of a key paper, which represents a significant milestone for the NSC ‘Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), Innovation & Regulation’ Working Group. This paper, developed through the collaboration of experts from five EU-funded projects (POTENTIAL, SUNSHINE, HARMLESS, DIAGONAL and SUNRISE), is featured in the ‘Legacy Special Issue’ of NanoImpact, which aims to provide an authoritative view of legendary experts in the nanosafety research area. The manuscript provides the perspective of the authors on the current and future trends in the field of Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) approaches. It introduces a tiered exposure-driven NGRA framework that integrates New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATA), employing techniques specifically designed to address the unique properties of advanced nanomaterials. We invite you to review the paper and appreciate the advancements achieved through this collaborative effort.
