NIA Symposium: Expert Analysis on Nano Regulation and Policy: Staying Ahead of the Curve (followed by NIA Annual General Meeting (for NIA Members only))
Wednesday 19 November 2014, 10:00 - 17:15
Address: TBC
The regulatory landscape for nanotechnology continues to shift throughout the world, with key discussions being held in a multitude of different sectors and locations. Europe remains at the forefront of legislative developments in the area, with individual Member States as well as the European Commission looking to develop and improve their governance systems.
At this time, therefore, the nanotechnology industries have many questions that need answering, including:
What impact will the nano-specific modification of the REACH Annexes have, and who should be preparing?
What is expected to be the outcome of the European Commission’s ongoing review of the 2011 recommended definition of the term ‘nanomaterial’?
How will the numerous and disparate transparency measures being implemented by Member States affect industrial stakeholders?
How are stakeholders in nanotechnology communicating these developments to the general public, and building acceptance for their views?
Presentation of topics currently being discussed worldwide:
- Nano-specific modification of the REACH Annexes
- Review of the EC recommended definition of the term ‘nanomaterial’
- National mandatory reporting schemes
- Transparency and public engagement
- Q&A and in-depth discussion with EC, Government, and stakeholder representatives on:
- The impact of the REACH Annex modifications
- The status of the regulatory review of the 2011 nanomaterial definition for industry
- The effect of national registries on businesses
- Lessons learned from public communication and engagement
- NIA input and activities in these areas.
- Next steps that NIA and industrial stakeholders should take.
